Being a microbiologist, it’s the unseen world that fascinates me, especially how it influences our everyday lives. Helping undergraduate students in their training to become the scientists of tomorrow is my passion. This includes delivering programmes to the wider community, especially school pupils and teachers. We grow up thinking of ourselves as a single organism that we control. Introducing budding young scientists to the idea that our lives depend on billions of microbes that inhabit our bodies is exciting and humbling. This has never been more relevant than in 2020. It is a joy to share science with inquiring minds.
